The temple complex comprises the main hall and anterior prayer pavilion, with auxiliary buildings to the rear and the sides. These house various deities, ancestral and commemorative tablets, the temple administration, and quarters for the monks and nuns. Across the road, lies a traditional opera theatre building which is also part of the temple complex.
The prayer pavilion is unique. Unlike most temples, its three transverse bays are equally divided instead of the central bay having a larger span. The progression is from front to back in other temples, whereas in Cheng Hoon Teng, the outgrowth is from the main deity.
